Recent Letter about Conditions in Zimbabwe

THE REAL ZIMBABWE WE ARE LIVING UNDER

What you are learning about Zimbabwe is real. Zimbabwe as I speak now is in deep crisis with cholera wrecking havoc in the lives of innocent citizens only because of one and only Robert Mugabe, the person who has been rejected by his own people but still is presiding over the state failure.

Hospitals have been closed down, schools up to today have not been opened for a month now, companies are closing on a daily basis, no money in the banks for the people, almost everything is dead. We are really in a sorry state but of course because of your prayers we are still living. Most students at the universities can’t afford to go back to school given that they are now
required to pay a thousand USA dollars per semester which is beyond the reach of everyone except Gideon Gono (the Reserve Bank governor) and Robert Mugabe cronies.
The economy has been dollarized, but no one who is employed is given foreign curency--so all in all people are really suffering and almost everything has gone beyond the reach of many.

We pray and do believe that now that the two main political parties which have theoretically agreed to work hand in hand will implement the agreement. Of course there are some challenges but we are praying for the best out of this agreement.
Zimbabwe of course is making history in the whole southern region. Not in any country that we have local currency as a useless garbage but in Zimbabwe but in Zimbabwe is real. Not in any country that the rejected person still presides as the people’s choice. In Zim this is real. People have been murdered and displaced as far as they are not Mugabe’s sympathizers. Everything is
disfunctional.

I am happy about your country esp in the democratic system. Congratulations for having Barack Obama as your president. We pray that God will guide him through thick and thin and that all his asperations are fulfilled.
As of us here we honestly believe that our suffering will come to an end in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

This is just a brief up of Zimbabwe’s events. I will always communicate with you if ever you want to know more as to our country.

Hope and believe that you will visit us in near future. We are close to Victoria Falls where we can spend our time together if ever you happen to visit us.

May our good Lord bless you abundantly for the money you sent us and
the words, “thank you” fall short of expressing our gratitude.

Yours in Christ
Xxxxxx Xxxxxxxx

Please note that this was written around the first of February, and there has been significant improvement in some areas since then; most employees are now paid in foreign currencies and prices in general have fallen, some by as much as 50%. Schools are currently open and some hospitals have also reopened. This letter was sent from Botswana, so was not subject to censorship; it would not have been safe to send it from Zimbabwe.
