Raising Awareness of World Hunger

Fun and education came together as the Confirmation Class--Dylan and Corbin Griest--their family and teachers sponsored a Hunger Banquet, based on the Oxfam Hunger Banquet. Peter Cram was MC. Suzanne Huggard made up tickets of identities from one of three income groups. Everyone drew a ticket at random and had to sit at the table on their ticket. We learned about how 60% of the world are low income; their meal consisted of rice and water. The middle income group ate rice, beans and juice, and the high income group, 15% of the population, had a lovely candle light dinner with pasta, salad, bread, coffee and dessert, prepared by Suzanne.

Soup and Bread at World Day of Prayer

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER: Pastor Barbara joined with other women to lead the annual World Day of Prayer. This year's service was written by the women of S. Africa, thus the reason for our African gab. Marion Baker from the Heniker American Friends was the organizer and chief soup maker for the event.

Lee and Christine Marcroft and Karen Dude were other Deering Community Church members who attended.
